Many biological activities, particularly antibacterial properties, have been established using Schiff bases. It may improve the therapeutic potential of currently available bactericidal drugs, such as sulfamethoxazole, in silico molecular docking, and biological action on bacteria.
The purpose of the research is to create alternative Schiff bases from sulfamethoxazole medications and investigate their antibacterial efficacy utilizing in vitro and in silico procedures. These medications create novel Schiff base compounds by interacting with four differently substituted aromatic aldehydes (benzaldehydes): 4-chloro, 4-hydroxy, 4-bromo, and 4,4-dimethyl-benzaldehyde. They were measured due to melting point (m.p.) determination, spectrum evaluation FT-IR, and ¹H NMR spectroscopy. In vitro antibacterial studies and in silico docking against dihydropteroate synthase were used to identify antibacterial activity.
Compounds 3 and 4 especially showed extremely high docking scores and significant antibacterial inhibitory zones, surpassing the combined medication. Laboratory research demonstrated the capacity to reverse bacterial resistance processes upon inspection and the potential for antibacterial chemicals to address the existing resistance problem in the future.
