Abstract:   (147523 Views)
Malignant diseases of the stomach and esophagus are common sufferings throughout the world including I.R. Iran.Geographically Islamic Republic of Iran specially Its Northern regions full of the cancer belt areas of the world. These Malignancies are severely Invative and dreadful. Disease is uncurable when first Presents clinically as it is too late to achieve cure for the patient. If diagnosed at early stage in their course these may be curable.Several factors are involved in the causation of these lethal diseases. These include ABO blood grouping diet, smoking, alcohol, nitrats, hot tea, and socio-economic status of the patient. In this study relative prevalence of ABO blood grouping and clinical presentation of operated patients for gastric and esophagial cancer at shafieiih Hospital of Zanjan from 1994 to 1999 of Iranian calendar are studied. The total numbers of patients during the said mentioned period were 184 that were selected by method of total sampling. The diagnoses were confirmed through histopatological reports and descriptive study was performed.122 patients were male and 62 were female. Relative prevalence ratio for male to female was 2:1.of the total numbers 125 had gastric cancer and 59 suffered from esophageal cancer relative prevalence ratio for Gastric to esophagial cancer was 2:1.45.6% of the patients having Gastric cancer had blood group A of ABO blood grouping system, That shows meaningful statistical difference as compared with remaining blood groups (P value = 0.02).Among patients with cancer of esophagus the prevalence of blood groups A+B have relatively high but no meaningful statistical difference was observed. The commonest presenting clinical symptom of the patients suffering from gastric cancer was Abdominal pain that has meaningful statistical difference with all other symptoms (P valu= 0.00001).The commonest presenting clinical symptom of patients with esophagial cancer was dysphagia that too had meaningful statistical difference with all other remaining symptoms of the disease (P value = 0.00).We suggest that clinical symptoms and signs of these two diseases should be explained to the whole population specially male gender over the age of 40 years with blood group A. necessary information should be provided so that the disease diagnosed and threaded early in its course. In doubtful cases endoscopy of the upper gastrointestinal Tract is mandatory.
